Project-Based Learning

At Reel Works, we believe when students are engaged  - learning becomes effortless. The process of filmmaking contains the disciplines of storytelling, literacy, critical thinking, technology, teamwork and leadership that young people need to succeed. We empower young people to transform themselves from passive consumers to active creators of media.

Community Partnerships

We partner with educators to design bespoke media arts workshops that engage youth in hands-on learning and support artistic and academic outcomes.  Trained filmmaker teaching artists put the power of film storytelling into the hands of middle and high school students so they can express their true voices and celebrate their community.

Whether the course focuses on traditional documentary, narrative, animation or other storytelling mediums, all Reel Works courses include a significant amount of time exploring story structure, personal voice, and the importance of artistic choices. Practical hands-on exercises in each course keep students engaged as they learn to master filmmaking technology.  All our courses or workshops are taught by professional filmmakers trained through our own Teaching Artist University and supported by student teachers.
